Wattle or Acacia Pycnantha

The golden wattle, Acacia pycnantha, is Australia's national flower.
You'll find the golden wattle growing in the wild in many parts of Australia, such as in South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, western Victoria and southern inland areas of New South Wales.
Mature golden wattle plants are said to be reasonably frost and drought tolerant. The specimen shown above was planted in the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney in 1987.
Selection criteria
Because native golden wattle grew naturally in the Australian Capital Territory and had other desirable features including design potential, it enjoyed popular acceptance as Australia's national flower. It was proclaimed Australia's national flower in 1988, the year of Australia's bicentenary.
National Wattle Day
Acacia is the largest genus in the family Mimosaceae, the Mimosa family, which is mainly tropical and sub-tropical.
Acacia pycnantha, the golden wattle, grows to about 4 to 8 metres.
In 1992, September 1 was formally declared National Wattle Day.

Australian Bush Flower Essences

How can flowers help us to be well?

grevilleaThe healing power of plants has been well known for thousands of years. The work I do with the Australian Bush Flower Essences is based on an understanding of the energy body and the multiple layers of mind, body and spirit. The flower essences are vibrational medicine working directly on the energy field of the person, which is dynamic and multi-layered and includes thoughts, beliefs, and feelings as well as encompassing the physical body.

From the beginning of time, the Yorta Yorta have told Dreamtime stories to each generation in order to keep the stories in our culture alive and to educate our people about our place on earth. Stories are told about the stars, planets, the land, animals, bush tucker, hunting and ancestors (Totemic Spirits), through paintings, carvings, dance and song. Aboriginal Art symbols are used on all forms of Aboriginal Art to help tell the stories of their history and culture.

    Tasmanian devil pic(7)

Wild Tasmanian devils can only be found in the wild in Tasmania (Australia).
There are many devils in the Tasmanian wilderness areas and in our National Parks. They also live in areas where there are farms and when farm animals die, devils will sometimes eat the carcasses.
Hundreds of years ago, Tasmanian devils not only lived in Tasmania, but also on the Australian mainland. We know this from fossils that have been found. They became extinct on the mainland about 400 years ago.
